
Ingredients

- 1/2 Cup Rice
- 1/2 Cup Moong Dal
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp crushed pepper
- 3 Tbsp Ghee
- 2 chillies slit
- 1 inch ginger grated
- 9-15 cashews
- a pinch of asafetida
- a pinch of termeric
- salt to taste
Step by Step Procedure to make Katte Pongal

Step 1
Take a pressure cooker, add 1 tbsp ghee.

Step 2
As the Ghee melts, add pepper and 1/2 tsp cumin.

Step 3
As cumin splatters, add 1/2 rice and 1/2 moong dal (always take 1:1 ratio rice : moong dal)

Step 4
Saute the dal and rice till they turn aromatic , then add 3 cups of water ( extra cup of water for consistency) . Add Salt to taste and pinch of turmeric and allow it to cook for 4 whistles.

Step 5
As the rice is cooked open the cooker and check for consistency.

Step 6
Now take a pan, add 2 tbsp ghee.

Step 7
As the ghee melts, add 1/2 tsp cumin, ½ tsp crushed pepper, 1 inch ginger, 2 slit chilli, 10 cashew and pinch of hing.

Step 8
As the tampering is ready add few curry leaves and stop the flame.

Step 9
As the curry leaves stop to splatter add the tampering to the cooked rice and mix well.

Step 10
Tadaaa!!! Yummie and easy Katte/ Ven Pongal is ready to serve.
